Kajal was born in Melbourne but was taken to India at age five where she lived with her grandparents for two years in a country town. It is her that she connected with her Indian heritage and religion and began to observe classical temple dancing. At age 7 kajal was returned to australia and became a part of a close family, however she was still encouraged to follow her passion and learn traditional dance. She began lessons in classical Indian dance “Mohinattam” under her guru (dance teacher) Tara Rajkumar.
Kajal has always been inspired to continue her passion for dance and to explore the various Classical Indian Dances. She showed a big enthusiam for learning about the elements of the culture, the origins of the dance, to further develop mime and characteristic hand movements. For Kajal, dance has been a search for identity and inner peace. Learning the flute and oboe also contributed to personalising her style of dance. As the years passed, Kajal has also learnt that not just performing but teaching dance and its influences bring her great joy and fulfillment.
Kajal is a delight to watch, with colourful energy and a sweet and enchanting stage presence that augment her excellent technical ability. She is a warm teacher with much to share.
